A note from Training Director, Amy Rihel:
I wanted to take a moment to tell you all about the tragic event that took place this past weekend. On Saturday, February 11th, during our training run, Sam Castillo collapsed on the trail. Due to the heroics of several individuals also on the trail, CPR was administered, 911 was called and Sam was rushed to the hospital. Sadly, later that day, Sam passed away surrounded by family.
We at Fleet Feet are crushed and whether in store, during training or just seeing him out for a walk, felt blessed and honored to know him. It absolutely breaks my heart to think of one of our own, leaving us in such a way. But instead of allowing ourselves to be swallowed up by the sadness of Sam's passing, we should instead focus on remembering him as the beautiful person he was.
Sam loved coming out to a workout. He was excited and ready to join his favorite people this past Saturday, in the sunshine, doing something he loved. Sam understood the amazing power and gift that is running and walking, and knew that it's not a competition against the clock but instead a trial of the heart and an incredible community of the very best people.
And Sam was one of those very best people. And we will miss him more than words can express. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
I ask that we dedicate this week to Sam. Keep him on your minds and hearts this week every time you lace up those shoes. On Wednesday, we will be asking for a moment of silence in honor of Sam.
