Annually we vote to continue with our alternative work schedule. Because we have shortened work days on Saturday and Sunday, we work longer shifts on Monday - Friday so that full time staff only have a 5-day work week. If we want to continue with the shifts this way, the staff has to vote to approve it (2/3 majority vote). Otherwise we will move to strictly 8-hour shifts for all employees to avoid overtime pay and this would result in full time staff needing to work 6 days a week.
In the past, our employees have agreed to earn overtime on a 40-hour work week allowing a 5-day schedule. Once the vote is in, everyone has to follow the same rules so we will respect whatever the staff prefers.
