Summer 7 Trail Running

Let the adventure begin!

Fleet Feet Sports will host the 2nd Annual Blood, Sweat & Beers Trail Run, on August 1, 2010. The event will offer a short & long course.

In preparation for this trail event, we offer Summer 7, a seven-week trail training program for runners.

Learn the ins and outs, ups and downs of trail running. In this program you will learn:

  • Proper Trail Running Techniques
  • Amazingly Cool Places to Run in the Foothills
  • Safety in the Wild
  • Fueling - It's Different on Dirt

Head coaches Tim Twietmeyer and Mo Bartley will head up the coaching team and are two of the most experienced trail runners around.

  • Tim:
    • 5-time Western States 100 Champion (That's 100-miles folks!)
    • Completed over 100 ultra marathons & 60 marathons
  • Mo:
    • 5-time Western States 100 Finisher
    • Represented the US Women's Team in the World 100 km Championship

Workout Times and Locations

First group workout is Sunday, June 13, 2010

Wednesdays at 6:30 pm at Ethan Way and the American River Trail and 100 Howe Ave. We will utilize the trails along the American River

  • Wednesday, June 23rd will be held at Cavitt  Jr. High School in Granite Bay.  This workout will focus on proper form for running trail hills.

Sundays at 7:30 am. All weekend workouts will be held in the foothills and will be within a 45-minute drive of downtown. In addition to training you for Blood Sweat & Beers, you will learn a variety of trails that you can return to and enjoy for years to come.

Training Group

  • Co-ed program for runners only

Required Activity Level Prior to Start of Training

Because of the "wild" nature of this training, there are a few prerequisites for joining the program:

  • Currently running 4 - 5 days/wk. and a minimum of 45 - 50 minutes per run
  • Injury free and able to run continuously for 5 miles on trail (first long workout)
  • Average pace of 11:00 minutes per mile or faster (on the road)
  • Not afraid of dirt, enjoy beautiful scenery and love a challenge!

Registration

Registration opens May 10, 2010 at 10 am

$90 per person

NO REFUNDS after June 9, 2010 (no exceptions)
There are no exchanges or transfers at any time
Training fee does not include race entry fee
A maximum of 125 people will be allowed in the training program.  There is no waiting list. 

Kick-off night for Registered Participants

The Summer 7 Training Program will Kick-off on Wednesday, June 9th at Fleet Feet J Street.  Training packets will be handed out from 6 - 7:00 pm and the Kick-off seminar will begin at 7 pm.

All registered participants should mark their calendars for the Kick-off Night. The Kick-off Night is where all specific training information is reviewed and discussed including training basics, training locations, training schedules, etc.
