Training Topics

Proper Form: Proper form can make all the difference when it comes to feeling good during your workout. Here are some running form basics that will help keep your workouts safe and effective by building your technique from the ground up.

Dynamic Warm-ups, Cool-downs, and Stretching: Warm-ups and cool-downs are essential for every workout, whether you're training for the marathon or playing soccer. Examples of warm-ups and cool-down vary, from dynamic movements to gentle stretching and breathing.

5k Time Trial: During Sunday's workout you will be completing a 5k Time Trial- 3.1 miles completed as quickly as you can. The time trial has two main purposes. 1) To give you estimated 5k, 10k, half and full training paces for future speed workouts 2) To be a race prediction tool based off your current level of fitness.
After you have completed your 5k Time Trial, you can input your pace into our Fleet Feet Sports pace calculator. Select the 5k distance and input your time from Sunday. The calculator will create a pace chart for you. Once you have your pace chart- it will give you an estimation of your ability on race day. Here is a handy guide on how to read the pace chart, and as always, your can always ask your coaches for help.

Training Schedules: For anyone that likes an e-copy of the schedule; here is one you can download. We have 3 schedules available based on your training goal and ability. Finish is for those looking to complete their first marathon. Improve is for those looking to PR. Perform is for those looking to qualify for the Boston marathon. Perform, Improve, or Finish.

Wearing Identification During Workouts: Everyday, people leave their homes to go for a run or a walk without any form of identification. If you have an unexpected accident while running or walking you could be in bad shape - nobody would know who you were or who to contact. Whether you are running, cycling, or going for a walk we encourage you to wear some form of identification. Road ID has a variety of products and are quite popular with our staff - we even have coupons for free shipping under the training display in the store.
