Training Topics

Recovery Tips: While most new runners get excited about the running and the racing, the savvy runner will tell you that the time when you are not running is equally important. But, contrary to conventional wisdom, recovery is more than just drinking the right ratio of carbs to protein after a hard workout. Here are some simple yet very effective ways to make sure you are recovering properly.

Sleep: Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout your life. Getting enough quality sleep can help protect your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and athletic performance. Here are some benefits to getting a good night's sleep.

Compression: You have probably seen people at races or running around the streets that have compression socks or sleeves on. Maybe you have thought to yourself, “Do those really work?” or “I wonder if those would help my shin splints or calf cramps?” Here are some benefits of what compression socks and sleeves do to help the body.

5k Time Trial: During this training session you will be completing a 5k Time Trial- 3.1 miles completed as quickly as you can. The time trial's main purpose is to be a 1/2 marathon race prediction tool. After you have completed your 5k Time Trial, you can input your pace into our Fleet Feet Sports pace calculator. Select the 5k distance and input your time from Thursday. The calculator will create a pace chart for you. Once you have your pace chart- it will give you an estimation of your ability on race day underneath the Half Marathon column. If you have any questions, print out your chart and bring it to Sunday's workout.
