Trail Heads Trail Training

Workout Times and Locations

  • Wednesday, April 5 @ 6:30 pm- Sierra College: 5100 Sierra College Blvd, Rocklin, CA 95677 (workout directions)
    • Don't forget a water bottle, yoga mat and headlamp. It will get dark towards the end of the workout. 
    • New training location: Please follow workout directions to get to correct parking lot. Do not just plug address into gps. $3 parking fee; cash or card.
  • Sunday, April 9 @ 7:30 am- Quarry, Auburn (workout directions)
    • Don't forget a water bottle, electrolytes and fuel and yoga mat or towel. 
    • Carpooling highly recommended
    • Halfway potluck after workout! Bring your favorite post-workout snack to share. 
    • Hoka will be there with shoe demos. Arrive early to test out a great new pair of trail shoes! 

Training Topics 

Poison Oak: This shrub is flourishing all over our trails thanks to all the rain we have gotten. Do you know what to look out for, or how to treat it should it brush against you? Here are some helpful tips in case you come in contact with this plant. 

Uphill & Downhill Running: As much as we all like to complain about them, we know that hill training is necessary and important... especially for trail. Make sure that you are getting every ounce of benefit from hill training by tackling them properly. Follow these tips and know that the hills are worth it! 

How To Fall: Everyone has fallen or will eventually fall when trail running. All you can do is try to minimize the occurrences and mitigate the severity of the impact. Here are some tips to remember when you feel yourself stumble out on the trails. 

What's Happening in Training 

Mark Your Calendars: 

  • April 9- Halfway Potluck! Bring your favorite snack to share with the group after the workout. 
  • April 16- Easter workout. We will have a full workout on Easter morning. 

Dirty Secret Trail Run: The race is officially Sold Out! There is no wait list. 

Trail Heads Escape!: Fleet Feet Sacramento announces their first ever trail running camp! You won't want to miss this amazing experience, May 19-21 at Michigan Bluff. All levels welcome! 

Oiselle/Hoka Shopping Night: Join us on Tuesday, April 11 at 6pm for a walk or jog around McKinley Park, followed by a shopping night with Oiselle and Hoka. We will have an expanded selection of Oiselle apparel as well as the unveiling of the Hoka/Oiselle co-branded running shoe!

Poppy Pass: Many of our training locations will have pay-for parking. One of the best ways to avoid these fees is to purchase a California State Poppy Pass. There will be a few opportunities where Ranger Pat will come to a workout to sell Poppy Passes. You may also purchase these online or at the Park Pass Sales Office located at 1416 9th Street, Room 144, Sacramento, California. When you purchase local- the money stays local!
