Training Topics

Hydration and Fueling for Trail: Unlike running on the city streets you may not have access to ANY water for long periods of time when on the trails - therefore, when going on a trail run, plan your hydration and fueling strategy before you head out from the trail head.

Hydration Packs: A hydration pack is specially designed backpack that carries your fluid supply, your fuel, and any other gear you might need while you are out on your run. When selecting the best hydration pack for your activities, there are a number of factors that are worth considering.

What's Happening in Training

Mark Your Calendar: We have some great events coming your way that you won't want to miss. Make sure to mark these on your calendar!

  • Sunday June 26th, cheer on runners at the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run
    • After our workout at the Auburn Overlook, head on down the road to the track at Placer High School to cheer on the runners who have been running for the past 24+ hours from Squaw Valley to Auburn in this epic event!
    • Fleet Feet Sacramento's very own Bob Halpenny (pictured right) will be taking part in the race so hopefully we'll get to see him come in!
    • Placer High School is located at 275 Orange St, Auburn, CA 95603. You can walk there from the Auburn Overlook.
    • The Western States ® 100-Mile Endurance Run is the world’s oldest 100-mile trail race, and in the decades since its inception in 1974, has come to represent one of the ultimate endurance tests in the world. Starting in Squaw Valley, California near the site of the 1960 Winter Olympics and ending 100.2 miles later in Auburn, California.

  • Sunday, July 3rd Halfway Potluck
    • Bring a yummy snack or drink to share with the group after your workout.

Sign Up for Blood, Sweat & Beers: Online registration for Blood, Sweat & Beers is still open and is filling up fast. As a bonus you will get to partake in a great post race atmosphere with BBQ and Hoppy Brewing serving their best beer. The race has two scenic course options: a Short Course; 5.9 miles and a Long Course; 10.5 miles.

Facebook Page: We have set up a Trail Heads Training Facebook page exclusively for our trainees. This is a great spot to communicate with fellow trainees in the program. This is not a coaching site and our coaches are not required to participate on the page. If you have training questions, please email: training@fleetfeetsacramento.com.
